It is not so much that statistics lie as that ...

... today's statistics need careful interpretation if we are to understand what tomorrow's statistics will reveal.

    All seems like guesswork to me. Reminds of of the old saying: "There are lies, damned lies and statistics. Good for mathematicians to play with, but not much practical use for the mission of the Church.
