The only surprise here is that the C. of I. Archbishop was actually willing to accept that a Catholic convert from Anglicanism could be jointly celebrated by both Churches in the cause of sainthood. The newly Beatified is, of course, not the only 'Anglo-catholic' Anglican to become a Saint in the R.C. Church - Cardinal John Henry Newman (despite his close association with another beloved priest, being buried in the same grave) - was just such another.
