We have lost a friend

The Diocese of Christchurch and many Christian brothers and sisters beyond the Diocese, throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, Northern Ireland and England (especially Oxford) are mourning the loss of our Dean, Lynda Patterson who died today of natural causes.

Taonga and Stuff report her death and briefly summarise her life and ministry.

This news is a shock to many of us who enjoyed friendship and collegiality with her. For myself I enjoyed both friendship and the special collegiality of co-authoring two Lenten studies together. We were in the process of composing the third in the series when she died.

As further news comes to hand I will endeavour to post it.

We had the blessing of having Lynda bless our grandchild and welcome her into the Anglican fold last month at her Christening in the cathedral. She was a beautiful soul and God knew she had achieved what he had sent her to do so he called her home. She will be missed but we rejoice in the fact that she is now with the father. Go in peace Lynda.

Dean Lynda Patterson was a bright light in the life of our Cathedral community and the diocese of Christchurch. She was that rare person - an astute theologian and full of fun. We will miss her.

Lynda enjoyed a special link with us at St. Michael's, and was due to preside at Choral Evensong with us at SMAA next Sunday. I have a feeling her presence will still be with us on that evening at 7pm.

May Lynda now rest peace, and rise one day with Christ in glory. Amen.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all, from far away in Canada. What Ron said - may she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Hi Peter

My thoughts and prayers are with you all in the Christchurch diocese, and beyond this week as you
mourn the loss Lynda loved family member, friend and colleague. Now with the God she loves.

Blessings

Thank you all for kind comments. I suspect we are only just beginning to realise what a loss it is that we have suffered.

I hope that, including as a tribute to Lynda and in her memory, her sermons are collected into a book and published.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
