A couple of weeks ago we had a lovely and well-attended "Leading Your Church into Growth" conference, with UK presenters, Harry Steele and Rhiannon King. At the conclusion of the conference, during our closing eucharist, I preached a short sermon, the text of which is published here.

One can say many things about how the game went … too much TMO??? … but congratulations to the South Africans: on the same blades of grass, same ref and same TMO, they triumphed by one point, which is a definitive win. The ABs had their chances, even with a man down, and could not capitalise. They didn’t deserve to lose but if they were to lose, a 1 point margin is good testimony to the effort they put in.
Can't really disagree. At least the ABs were a lot better than their last encounter. As for the Boks, I will think of them as the one-pointers (quarter-final, semi-final, final) - there is a sermon in there somewhere. Also the imponderables of life: the penalty kick that was passed over in favour of the try that wasn't. But as Aslan says in Prince Caspian, "no one is ever told what would have happened." (St Paul on that ship might have disagreed!"Men, you should have listened to me ...)
The best part was two world champion teams embracing each other after a very gruelling competition that produced some historically outstanding matches.
