Karaitianatanga

Bishop Muru Walters is retiring from his role as Bishop of Te Upoko o Te Ika (southern North Island).

He has given a very fine address at the recent Runanganui in Whakatu (Nelson).

It is here and I commend it to you for its insights into Christianity in Maori perspective.

Muru Walters - a lovely Maori Bishop! A most telling paragraph for me:

"KARAITIANA - Christians who praise Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour;
"KARAITIANATANGA - represents the suffering (of) the subjugated and discriminated against, who Christ sides with.

Jesus said: "Blessed are the poor, they will be satisfied".
